Internet walks through a one-side way. This way lead us to a place where the only paper of our PC is connecting to the Internet. Proof of this are sites like Writely, Google Spreadsheets, Think Free and others that takes our basic apps online. They allow us to access documents from anywhere, edit then, save then, download then (if you need), making “Office packages” useless. Some of you may be septics about what i say, but believe me, I’ll show you that things are getting really promising.
Today I’ll talk with you about DesktopTwo, an application that allow you to have a desktop online (looking like a real PC desktop). The slogan is: “You Can Bring Your Desktop Too”, and this is for real.

DesktopTwo have a lot of things that you use in your day-to-day tasks. Like Pop3 Email access, Address Book, MP3 Player, Open Office (it works!), Blog Tool, Instant Messengers, Notepad and an Acrobat Reader. Almost everybody that use computers, need those apps. Let’s take a deep look into every of those functions.
POP3 Email Access:
When you make your account in DesktopTwo, they give you an option to have a yourname@desktoptwo.com email or “Don’t have it”. No matter your answer, you can configure your POP3 Receiver in DesktopTwo and use your favorite email server.
Address Book:
You can save and organize all your contacts. There is a search that makes easy to find anyone in your address book, also, you can share your saved contacts.

MP3 Player:
Not everything are flowers in DesktopTwo
. I uploaded some mp3’s files and couldn’t make they play. But let’s give then a chance… it’s a 0.7 Beta version. But the idea of playing your mp3s from anywhere its incredible (it already can be done, but not in your “own desktop”).

Open-Office:
That’s great, we can write texts, make spreadsheets and presentations. It’s not so good as Writely or ThinkFree, but it’s a beta version. Probably they will make the code a lot better. My PC almost stopped when i tried to open the “Word Processor”.

Blog Tool:
It makes possible editing your blog from anywhere. Not a big feature, since all the blog services allow (and are projected for) updates from the web. But it’s there if you want to use
.
Instant Messengers:
It’s compatible with MSN, but i couldn’t get connected, it gives me a lot of errors. “But it’s a beta”.
Notepad and Acrobat Reader:
What can i say?! They look just like the one that you have.
Another great feature: You can change your “wallpaper”, but you can’t upload your own (probably it’ll be possible in the future). You have 1Gb of free storage (the upload process is very cool), so you can save your files (mp3, videos, etc) and access then from anywhere.

DesktopTwo makes you feel like on a “real” PC desktop. Besides the fact that there’s nothing new (every of this services already exists on separated sites), it innovate for bringing all of this features together in “your desktop”. But there’s a long way to make a quality service.
